Upper Extremity

Upper Extremity Orthoses are devices applied externally to restore or improve functional and structural characteristics of the upper portion of your musculoskeletal system.

Finger Orthoses
Finger Orthoses are used to support, protect and prevent deformity of the fingers. Indications for a Finger Orthoses include:

  • Dislocation
  • Mallet Finger
  • Boutinniere Deformity
  • Swan Neck Deformity
  • Trigger Finger
  • DeQuervain’s Tenosynovitis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Fracture

Wrist Orthoses
Wrist Orthoses are used to support, protect and prevent deformities of the wrist. Wrist Hand Orthoses support the wrist and hand together. Indications for a Wrist Orthosis/Wrist Hand Orthosis include:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)
  • Wrist and/or Hand Contractures
  • Any Functional Hand Positioning indications

Elbow Orthoses
Elbow Orthoses are used to support, protect and prevent deformity of the elbow. Elbow Orthoses can be prefabricated or custom molded depending on the amount of control needed. Indications for an Elbow Orthosis may include:

  • Post Operative
  • Olecranon Fracture
  • Medial or Lateral Epicondylitis
  • Elbow Contracture
  • Trauma
  • Degenerative Disorders
  • Congenital Disorders

Shoulder Orthoses
Shoulder Orthoses are designed to support, protect and prevent deformity of the shoulder. These orthoses are most commonly used post operatively for immobilization. Indications for a Shoulder Orthosis include:

  • Tear of the Shoulder Capsule
  • Rotator Cuff Repair
  • Post Operative Use
  • Chronic AC Joint Dislocation

Fracture Orthoses
Fracture Orthoses are used to protect and prevent deformity in the case of a non displaced fracture. Upper extremity Fracture Orthoses are effective in simple long bone fractures. Studies have shown that allowing minimal movement of the fractured area actually promotes and stimulates bone growth thus decreasing healing time. Fracture Orthoses can be referred to as “removable cast”. Indications for an upper extremity Fracture Orthosis include:

  • Fracture of the Humerus
  • Fracture of the Ulna
  • Fracture of the Radius
